High Quality Graphite Soft Felt and Hard Felt for High Temperature Applications
Graphite felt, also known as graphite fiber felt, is mainly used as a thermal insulation and refractory material for various industrial furnaces including single crystal furnaces, carbonized furnaces, quartz furnaces, vacuum furnaces, thermal balance reaction furnaces, heat treatment furnaces, sintering furnaces, welding furnaces, and high-pressure furnaces for metallurgy, machinery, and chemical engineering industries. It is also used as a filter material for high-purity corrosive chemical reagents.

Graphite felt has a carbon content of over 99%, which is higher than carbon felt. Under non-oxidizing atmosphere conditions, its working temperature can be over 2000 °C. It works with graphite composite boards and graphite special-shaped parts to form the insulation layer of industrial furnaces.

Graphite felt is divided into soft graphite felt and rigid graphite felt. In addition, carbon felt before high-temperature graphitization is also an excellent high-temperature thermal insulation material and has good adsorption properties for inorganic gases.

Due to its controlled internal structure and electrical conductivity, soft felts can also be used for energy storage like redox flow cells. Soft graphite felts are divided into PAN-based soft graphite felts, rayon based soft graphite felts, and soft felts for battery.
The base material for the production of carbon and graphite soft felt is felt made of needled cellulose fibers. They are processed into carbon soft felts by thermal treatment at temperature 800-1000°C. If these felts are treated at higher temperatures >2000°C, they become graphite soft felt.

High Quality Graphite Soft Felt and Hard Felt for High Temperature Applications
Rigid felt is a rigid insulation material with low thermal conductivity based on carbon fibers. A carbon based bonding material locks the fibers in a rigid structure, that can be offered in any shape (for example, plates, cylinders, barrels, disks).

Rigid felt is produced by mixing and pressing of fiber material and binder, followed by high temperature treatment at temperature up to 2800 °C. In the final production step the rigid felt is machined to the desired dimensions.

Surface coating can be: CFC, graphite foil or carbon cloth. 

Rigid graphite felt is generally divided into pitch-based rigid graphite felt, PAN-based rigid graphite felt and rayon-based rigid graphite felt. Comparing with rayon-based rigid graphite felt, PAN-based rigid graphite felt has bigger strength, better oxidation resistance, higher density, but weaker flexibility, better insulation properties.
